This is track is a sort of world lament over the commercialization and politicization of Christmas. We ask Santa, the children's secularized symbol of commercial innocence, to bring back the true meaning behind the celebration.
lyrics
At the top of the world, beneath the northern lights,
Lives a man who comes on Christmas night.
With the help of elves he packs his sleigh of toys
That he brings to all the good girls and boys.
But, on the very next day, there's still war and injustice.
People run around sayin' that it's just us...
That life is just a race, and there's no redeeming grace.
Joy is hidden by the noise of all the shiny toys.
What we need is hope, not a dolly or a tractor.
What we need is peace, not a nuclear reactor.
What we need is love in a package from above.
Saint Nicholas, please bring us Jesus for Christmas.
Well all is calm, and all is bright.
He comes to us on Christmas night.
You won't find him underneath a tree.
Instead, he lives in you and me.
Saint Nicholas,we're askin' for Jesus this Christmas.
He's everything we need with the usual fuss.
He's not in any store. You won't find him in a drawer.
There's no replacement parts, 'cause he's living in our hearts.
What we need is hope, not a dolly or a tractor.
What we need is peace, not another factory.
What we need is love in a package from above.
Saint Nicholas, please bring us Jesus for Christmas.
When the night has come, and the season's gone,
He lives in us the whole year long.
When all the toys are put away,
Jesus' love is here to stay.
What we need is peace, not a politician actor.
What we need is love in a package from above.
Saint Nicholas, please bring us Jesus for Christmas.
Fugli is a 23rd level AD&D 1e Bard. Really, he traded his time playing in copious tabletop RPGs for people paying him to sing and play silly (and also some serious) stuff. Tips gratefully accepted.
